To be honest you have to experiment. As long as you put them together at a young age and they be able to live together witout being aggressive then you be fine. Just a trial and error thing.

Definately not. If you choose a nice one to start with youll be fine.

well i was just going to start with three when they were all small. so i shouldnt have to worry about their sex when i get them at that age?

That would be impossible, silvers are virtually impossible to see 100%. Theres little hints but thats it.

I say usually it would be nice to have two females and a male cuz males then to have more aggression than female fishes.

How do you know this, you can't even sex silver aros and your saying males are more aggressive.

ok so starting with three right off the bat when they are small is the key here? they will be the only ones in the tank for a while, dont want my future clown knife to gobble them up.

Captive bred is better, it saves the fish in the wild.

its very hard to tell the difference between the sexes.
and i dont think it would matter whether all are males,all are females,or a mix.
