every 4 days i give my jag like 8 crickets. hes 8 inches. he doesnt eat alot of pellets for some reason but he loves crickets. is this ok? i just want to make sure hes eating alot so he hits max size. i also do alot of fresh waterchanges is it ok to give him alot of crickets. its not a long term thing just until he hits like 13-14 inches

Lot of protein, i would suggest changing to freeze dried jumbo krill and soaking them over night in Boyds vita-chem. still get the protein but everything else he needs also. crickets should be a treat. Pellets best for him also. you may have to starve him a bit but once he starts taking the krill he will goble them. worms good also, large A1 night crawlers. Meal worms also great. do not over feed, bad for the fish and more than likes die an early age before reaching full size potential. long as fed a balanced diet, water perimeters kept good. and stress low he will reach his full genetic potential.

good water and a balanced diet will be the most beneficial for him. power feeding a fish to get it to grow is not the best thing to do..... just saying.

but to answer your question. i dont think its too many crickets. better crickets than gold fish.

Crickets will consume all sorts of fish food. You can let them fill up on pellets, flakes, etc. before you feed them to your jag. Reptile people refer to this as gut loading.

My oscars ate worms ,tilapia fillets , and shrimp daily. He would eat the worms especially didn't even give my rtc a chance. I had to put one worm in front of him and another on the other side on the tank so my rtc could get some.

wht kind of worms? mealworms, earthworms, etc ? i feed it shrimps daily once but i was afraid tht it might carry parasites so i switched to earthworms. i put some chopped carrots once at a time but it just doesnt want to accept it.
ure way of feeding ure fish looks complicated. must be hard ehh? but a man's gotta do wht he has to do with his fish. hahah

Trout and nightcrawler worms from the Lfs. I've had a few fish take skinned peas. It's really not as complicated as it sounds just challenging getting enough food to the bottom of the tank for the rtc to eat too. The Oscar was smart about it and that's what made it complicated. I tried to drop a bunch in a once to see if he would just take one or two and let the rest fall down but he would swallow the whole thing. Like 5 or more worms at once so one day I just tried it like that. Distract him with a few near the surface and put some in the outflow of my filter so the sink faster and it worked. Both fish got enough food so we were all happy.
