Is he a Jack Dempsey?

Yea def. a JD. I'd suggest a pair of Firemouths as they dont get really any bigger than 6 inches...that is if you wanted another cichlid or a pair...but i.m.o. you never can have to many cichlids!!!

No convicts!!! They will probably destroy him in a 75. Get the guy a female and let them breed. He looks to have a slumped spine from old age which is very common with those. I don;t think he has much competition left in him as far as competing with younger cichlids in his tank. Maybe you could put some severums in with him, or possibly another smaller calmer sa cichlid like a sajica if your LFS has them.

yea dont do convicts or firemouths especially a pair, maybe do a severum or festivum

thats a nice male jack. as for tank mates, some people will say oscar. DONT DO IT. he wil killl the oscar.:irked: that is what happened to mine.:(

It's an adult JD. Babies and juvies don't get that nice coloration until they get around 6"-7" The stores around here sells them small so they look nothing like an adult. As for small tank mates...maybe Acaras?

you can tell by the color on the gill plate or the fins, by your pucture i think yours is female by the blue on the gill plate
