I don't keep pacus, but I know people who have. Most gave them up when they got too big to keep in a tank that their floor would support.

This site says max size of red-bellied pacu is 42 inches, minimum tank 1200 gal. http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/characidae/red-bellied-pacu/100067.asp

This site says more than two feet, possibly three, need a minimum of 300 gal. for just the single pacu http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/freshwater/chariciforms/redbellypacu.html

Some people even say four feet!

That's just one of your fish.

Don't waste your money on a 55 gal. I hope you have a big basement, because the tank you need will have to be on a concrete slab. You'll need a LOT of water and some very thick glass.

i really thought that i saw a full grown red bellied pacu that was like a 1' 1/2 long......

You probably saw a red-bellied PIRANHA (Pygocentrus nattereri). When full-grown, they are around 12 inches, give or take.

A red-bellied PACU is Colossoma bidens. It will grow to about 3 feet, and it's "tall" so it will seem even more massive.

i think so too maybe youve mistaken a red belly pacu to a red belly piranha. cause they look more or less the same

Next time do your homework!!!

I would return the pacu right now before it gets any bigger. Past a certain size no one will take it, even for free.

Your other fish are already too big for your tank. You should replace it. If you are not committed to getting a huge tank, please don't get a CK either.
