Verticle bars on the side mean nothing. My male has them. 100% male. A long pointed dorsal fin is a better key to sexing a male.

yeah its not a 100% accurate way to tell but it is a bit more obvious on the females i have had a few saums since ive been keeping fish, and i have had females laying eggs with a hump on the head and with pointy dorsal fins so it can be a bit tricky

he/she is very camera shy...i had to sneek these with zoom hahaa my big male GT keeps doing this head shake at he/she and gets all excited but he/she wants nothing to do with him lol

Ok so this GT was abit beat up when I got it, went through ick and is now healthy and in my big tank...Im hopen its a lady....it's about 4" now I believe...is it still too young to tell? Or did I pick up another male?

sorry crapy pixs shes been cleaning out that pot today, normally shes really shy and hides in the wood, but today shes been flaring up at my male every time he passes by...i would be super excited if they had babys....

female, im about 100% positive by the updated shots. Plus if your male is shakin and wiggling at her thats a good sign shes a female and he wants to mate.

sounds like pre-spawning rituals. watch for her to show alot more olive color in her overall appearence. the fems will almost always have the dark spots on the face when watching over her spawn. you may even notice dark vertical bands. the whole H thing w/ the gold vert bars is BS bot sexes do that.....how bout a pic of the male ya got to compare......nice pic up squish!! i also seem to only find females takin a chance on this lil guy i picked up 150mi away hopin it's a Lad and not a nother Lass
