is it a right or a privilage to serve?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did 20 in the Navy and still work for NAVAIR as a Civilian. PTS is a crock of **** and ass kissing not work gets the marks. With our current ongoing ground conflicts and lack of money if you are not in the Marines or Army you are looking at the other two scrambling for the scraps in the budget.

Sounds pretty much like every job you'll encounter in the civilian world. If you like what you do, keep with it. no matter where you work there is always gonna me some idiot that has a higher position/pay.

I was a marine mechanic for six years and had two years of school by the time I was 20. I plan on getting out and using my gi bill to go back to school and have my wife finish her business degree then apply for a government grant get some utility trucks and start my own mobile marine mechanic business. On a bad year by myself I'll make $75000 a year. My heart and soul are in boats. I love it and the sense of satisfaction I get from it. Also I'll be my own boss. Mattyou are you in pax? The navair headquarters is where I'm stationed.

You've likely heard; "You get out of it what you invest into it." It's true. Do nothing and expect nothing in return. I pushed for training and got all my quals done early. Was the youngest ESWS awardee in the history of my command. Completed so many correspondence courses that they actually ran out of suggestions of what to do next. Became the most junior JOOD/UW and OOD inport at my command. Made E-4, 5, 6, &7 my first time up at each level. Retired at just under 21 years.
While there are alot of lulls or boring times to deal with. The excitements the rest of the time were well worth it for me. I've been to 82 countries (some while taking leave). Did 4 tours in the Gulf and 3 Ops in SA. Started out as a corpsman and SCORE converted to Fire Controlman in my 2nd hitch. Retired as an FCC(sw/MTS). I'd definitely recommend the Navy to anyone looking for a career and not for an easy coast through life.

Choose your Rate choose your fate........
Had I stayed a builder I would have been up for Senior Chief This Year, as it is I Changed over to a GM 1 month before the TM/GM Merger was announced. Still a GM1 :( School and Quals are where it is at. The same goes for Collateral Duties. It all makes the Eval look good........

If you just go to work and do your job that is all it becomes, Take as much responsibility as you are willing to carry and then get a little more.

Placing the blame on standardized testing or "friendalism" isn't going to help you in the long run. While those may be legitimate issues, the best way to get over any obstacle is to push yourself harder.

And yeah, former Marine here.

Oh yea deffinately agree. I'm fully qualed and working on my qar/cdi right now but as an airman they won't give me it till I make e-4. I'm not worried at all about it but the whole idea of it is pissing me off. if they want to do this they need to make it service wide. I would happily go marines and pick up an m-16. But that's not what I'm planning for my family. And I understand how you could see ms as just a punk who's lazy and don't want to get off my ass considering my complaints. But I am a very hard working individual. I love to sweat I love to work my ass off there's no better feeling to me and a sense of accomplishment from my job really means a lot to me. But i am being currently affected by the ass kissery and best friendalism lol. And with only so many ep evals available for my lpo to award theyre not going to me even though everyone I have discussed this issue with agrees that is the case. But they're not wanting to cause a stir to avoid negative marks of thier own. Anyway I only wanted personal opinions of this system and not to be judged personally I know exactly what I need to do but being qualed and busting your ass with this new system means nothing as long as your a pro at kissing ass lol. I don't mean to complain and ***** about things. I just wanted to if anyone else thought PTS was a bad idea. But again I wanted personal opinions and not to express how I felt about it to get some honest opinions.
