I have been feeding my baby RTC king salmon that i've caught locally out of Lake Michigan. Just wondering if this is a good food source for it. He seems to love it, and has grown 2" since september 7th. I feed him every 3 days. Also, am i feeding him too much per sitting? He gets quite the belly full...

I think it would be fine, but it is a fatty fish so I would feed it only once a week and do the rest of the feedings with pellets and tilapia fillets. Also all the oils from it can add extra biological waste that your filter would have to deal with eventually.

But on a different note, last I saw (2015 or so) people were advised to not eat lake salmon more than 4 times per month. (This is due to PCBs and to thiaminase.) I guess it's up to you to decide if it's okay to feed lake salmon to your fish.

I have seen the hikari predator pellets at my it's I'll see if he will eat those, and maybe try table shrimp or something as well. It makes sense for it to be fatty and to not give it more than once a week, Thanks yall!

Keep feeding a variety of foods, lob worms or bait worms as long as not from soil that has pesticides (I buy from bait shop), tilapia fillets are good.

RTC will eat anything and everything so massivore tabs and a mix of other sinking pellets, big prawns, mussel etc but keep, crustaceans low due to thiaminise (I add aquarium vitamins to counteract)

I know someone who breeds cockroaches and I bet you could use those and gut feed the roaches.

What size tank or pond do you have planned for him?

The fat content is something indeed to pay attention to. I agree with too much fat would be deleterious, even if fish fat. Usually for tropical predators / opportunists such as RTC, 10%-15% fat is acceptable, I think.

RTC will eat anything and everything.

Feed it to a good bulge. Feed next time when the tummy goes back to flat. Simple.

He is in a 29 atm until 6-7", then a 75 until he reaches 1'- 1'4" or so, then a 300 stock tub for awhile until I plan out my indoor pond(roughly 10x10x4)

I would never have thought of going in a 29, is that just to quarantine and protect it from large fish? I assume it will be in and out of the 75 in no time, I remember my friends in a 150 and it lasted about 6 months before needing bigger. It wasn't just space, it was keeping the water in good condition.

The 29 is my way of ensuring he eats as a small baby... the tank is filtered at about. 200g capacity. From his growth as of yet, he will last a decent time in the 75 before he gets moved again to the stock tub.
