is it bad to turn an fx6 off and on frequently?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its a 75gallon. only 1 fx6
even though fx6 are rate up to 300g i would add HOB filter or another smaller canister filters if you want to shut off the fx6..again i wouldnt recommend shutting them off.

I'm running 2x AC110 and 2x FX6 on a 115G community tank and I shut off all filters during feeding time...I have no issues or any problems with water water quality whatsoever! Also during maintain filter will loss the pressure to work correctly and would stop working if I do more than 50% WC.

dang yuki your wood is prettier than mine, mine is all hollow. the 125 g tank runs 2 aqueon 55/75 (the newer ones rated at 400g per hour) and a fluval 406 rated at 396g per hour. I Also turn off all of my filters at Water change time with no issues dunno if I would want to do it daily that frequent a shock may fry it.

On a side note yuki do you think 1600g per hour on a 125g would be enough for 8 blue acar 6 elliots and 2 chocolates and a few bichirs?

Well, in term of filtration there is no limit or overkill. It's all depend on your feeding habit, maintain and if all water quality parameters are in check then you're good.
