The first thing with any fish/animal with contracting a disease is it's immunity, and it's immunity a lot of the time is determined by it's blood line/genes.
I have koi from several different places:
Blackwater Creek Koi, Blue Ridge Koi, SJ Koi, Sundan Koi- and a breeder in GA that kinda just tried it out to see what happened.
The Koi from Blue Ridge have had the most mortality rates. And this has not been determined just by me alone. The fish I have with Carp Pox also came from this farm. This farm doesn't pull ponds much because they have so many they don't need to, so the koi are spawning with fish from their own "litter" so to speak.
As of now- I ONLY get fish from Blackwater Creek- they have shown to have the best lines as far as immunity to disease; handling stress; pattern; growth; spawning rates. This is a top notch breeding facility for American Bred Koi.
With carp pox I have found that it's all got to do with the breeding/lines. Think of EBJD's- they are more susceptible to everything more than JD's, as they are of a mutation/inbred variation.
Hope I kinda made sense.![]()
