large mouth bass get huge we are talking about a 2'+ fish weight 18+ lbs and the dovii about 2' but weight is about half . so that large mouth is going to make a ton of poop. those will be the two biggest fish and so with that i would say a minimum of 300gal and use a sump in combination with a canister i have found that this works best for big tanks

Sorry but there is little chance that the bass go over 6 pounds and even less chance it will get to 2 feet. Where have you seen an 18+ pound, 2+ foot long largemouth in a home aquarium???

An 18 pounder would be a fisherman's dream in the wild. They are extremely rare, and to say that his bass will get that big is just an uneducated guess.

Your really looking at most likely a 3-6 pound, 17-18 inch fish full grown, unless you have a potential world record bass in your tank.

:iagree:

Even in the wild in huge lakes its rare to see a bass over 2' and even at that length they'll usually weigh <10 pounds...

i hate to go against the grain but i've built tanks for much less. It was cost effective for me at as little as 100 gallons. Find a brand new 100 gallon, should be in the $350 range. I built my 130 for for under $300. Materials: plywood and hardwood front/sides $75, Epoxy $60 w/ shipping, Glass was $45 w/ shipping, silicone $10, misc. items-sand paper, screws, wood glue $20. It mostly depends on how you build it. Now this is just the tank, it doesnt include filter, lights, stand..

Come out to Columbus and I'll build you one lol

I agree skip the canister go with a wet/dry sump setup...look at the DIY filter section....also heads up Use to have 2 16inch Oscars in a 140g they owned that tank couldn't keep others with them do to territory issues so plan ahead if your set on that combo your biggest issue is going to be them battling it out as they all mature and get angry...good luck love the combo I hope you can pull it off might want to think about throwing a green terror in for color to...lol

i would love to find a 150 gallon for a nice price!, it looks as if i'll have to start out small and work my way up through the next few years. i can't wait to raise a few monsters of my own.

You seem inexperienced and uneducated. No offence meant. I just think you should slow down. Get a 180 and a pair of oscars. Once you have some experience and knowledge, go bigger. Midas, dovii and large mouth bass are more advanced fish that need a huge amount of space and lots of care to live in a community. Also oscars wouldn't survive with doviis or midas. Despite what ignorant fish store employees tell you they aren't that aggressive. At least not compared to most cichlids. If you want a dovii get one, but keep it by itself. You need to realise how much of a commitment big tanks are, especially with that stock list.
