Hey guys. So a couple days ago i just came home from some music lessons when i c blood on the ground. Not too much blood, but enough to freak me out. When i kept walking i saw my 2 foot pacu on the ground with some guts comping out and a big gash on the side. More like a bruise. It was dead and i saw the lid of the tank on the ground with a crack in it. Is it common for pacus to jump out or is it the tank mates. I have another small half foot pacu. Giant 1 foot oscar, goldfish, parrot chichild, tinfoil barbs, and a smaller 4 in oscar. All are pretty tame except the small oscar. They stay completely away from feeder fish and meat. Only eat fish food and some veggies. :( my pacu is gone.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I'd be devastated if I lost a pacu that way. My tank is undecorated with a bare floor. My pacus manage to get cut and scraped all the time by hitting the tank lids. The three lids are very heavy, but the pacus managed to somehow knock a lid into the tank. From their injuries, if the lids were light, I'm sure the pacu would go flying out of the tank since they hit the sides and the top of the tank with such brute force. They are very powerful muscular fish.

Sounds like it is time to really secure your tank lid.

The biggest Pacu I ever had was about 14 inches long. No matter what I did, like quickly turn on the lights or bump the tank or walk by really quick, did he freak out. He was always really calm and seemed like nothing spooked him. I had a big piece of driftwood and he never ever ran into it like my aro did when spooked. Maybe I just had a laid back Pacu, The Doctor

My tank it is in know is 125 gallons. The whole group fits perfect and i also had a pond for it to grow into if it gets too big.

idk ummmmm i had a thread on my small pacu had a big whole in its head but that was a very long time ago. about a year ago i know better. People say they get too be monsters but i dnt believe them i think my pacu was fully grown

Sorry to hear about your pacu. When mine were in glass, I kept 2x4's across the top with ratchet straps to the stand. Before that, I used bricks, but one day a pacu hit the lid, the brick bounced and broke the lid. Shards of glass sifted down through the water and cut up a few fish. No casualties, though. Now they are in a pond.

a 125 is way too small for a 2 foot pacu even if it live alone in that tank! there is a high chance it jump out because the lack of space.
