Is it common for pacus to jump out of their tank?

ugh this is frustrating people say i am doing this and that wrong wen they all look fine. None of them is crammed and wen i bought the tank it was on craigslist and said 125 gallons i got really no idea for sure just a 125 gallon ugh! The glass was knocked off with a big crack in it but did not shatter thank gods and the previous owner had the same fish for 5 years problem is he took horible care. Wen i bought it the last time he did a water change was 6 months ago and wen we took the water out to transfer the fish and tank the water turned pure black... they look fine and happy i'll try to post some pics later
