Is it crazy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's a good price for that level quality, here it would be a bit more about US$25.

Let's not forget though that the average cost of living and monthly disposable income are about 3 times less here in Thailand and about 4 times less in India compared to US so that should be factored into the equation -- though agreed with regards to aquarium fish there's even more of a disparity, I'm kinda shocked when I see prices for many fish in the US. Given it's not easy to produce top grade FH's, esp. Kamfa mixes, I guess it's not surprising the prices get jacked up even more.

Is he a kamfa?

I think US is 6x more expensive than in India. I think flowerhorn demand is high. When I was a kid many LFS rarely kept FH. Now even small shops have 3-4 at least for sale in India. May be there are local breeders for red dragons at least but most good quality are imports.

The high end thai FH are definitely gorgeous fish but i will say yes it is indeed crazy the prices that they command. But if the breeders can get away with it more power to them!

I am not sure how much breeder is actually getting. Shipping to US, import, overnight shipping fees when in US, transhipper fee should equal to 100-150 out of it.

Forgot to add I have seen crazy prices in India as well, the most I saw was 40,000-50,000 INR (564-705 USD), but medium ones are priced pretty cheap

Thai breeders are way ahead of us in the game. I've seen some awesome USA bred stuff but nothing that compares to the other side of the pond as far as kamfa go. Probably a rumor, and likely is, but it still wouldn't surprise me, we haven't even seen the best of their best. We get yesterday's model made available to us. I know over the last year I see them getting more and more of a wow factor as time goes on.

Might be true, they would want to sell 1000 fish tomorrow than 1 today.

The one with green background, I paid INR 2500 (around $35) when he was 4 inches. The one with smaller kok was mine as well, I got him for free from a friend who had breed few. The last one was my cousins who paid around INR 2000 (less than 30 dollars).
