1. i would hope that anybody keeping any fish would have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite, heavy skimming would help here.

2. i guess a chiller would be needed for the summer months

3. i would not consider this "harder", but good to know.

Walmart fans actually drop my tempeture from 86-75.

But then - you should never introduce a shark in to a tank that isn't fully cycled.

2. i guess a chiller would be needed for the summer months

It would depend on the species your keeping. Most "beginner" sharks tend to be warm water species - with preferred water temps being in the 72-82F range. And keeping shark tanks/ponds indoors -where it's usually climate controlled - elimates the need for a chiller in the summer for most warm water species.

However those species that are considered cool water below 70F will require a chiller - year round.

how about potential tankmates, if any? im shure this is pretty much trial and error but i am going to start my sw venture with an eel and "something pretty" as my wife puts it, perhaps a lion. once i feel comfortable in my capabilities i would like to acquire a shark or two, in a seperate system if needed.

or any other tips for/from other potential keepers out there.

I like using smaller schooling fish for 'filler' in shark tanks. What species will depend on what sharks and the size of your tank. Looksdowns, grunts, jacks, groupers.....
