  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know I should really start a new thread but... Can anyone provide me with some good information regarding Rhoms? I'm starting to get rerally interested in Piranhas, and would like a few Rhoms, been trying to find some good solid information on the net, but I'm not findin much using google. So, if any of you could help me out, that'd be great.

Just stuff like tank size, how many to house to a tank, can they be kept as a single specimen in one tank, etc.

Thanks...

They can be only kept as single specimens. A 48x18 tank like a standard 75g tank would be fine for most rhoms for life. Unless you buy a huge 14"+ then I would go with a 24" wide tank like a 120g or 180g.

There are many type of Serrasalmus rhomb (black, blue, gold, diamond, high back, xingu, etc...)

Each Rhomb got it own personally and come from different location. It's really recommend to keep in single per tank.

Tank size
5-6" at least a 55gallon
8-12" at least a 75gallon-90gallon
13" plus suggestion 129gallon wide or 125gallon and/or more for comfortable living.

Diet
Rhomb are just like any other piranha. It's good to feed the rhomb variety different diet.

Raw shrimp, clams, scallops, fish fillets, pellets, worm, krill, etc...
Small: feed them 3-4 time a day with small portion
medium: 2-3 time a day
large to adult: once a day or every other day.

Temperature:78-82f
PH: 6.8-7.2

Rhomb can grow very large and big. Depending you would start from small or big. Most people don't have the time and patient to out grow Rhomb or Serrasalmus species because it's a slow grow after the first year.

rhomb and other serrasalmus (with proper care) can grow up to 6-7" with in the first year, and every 1" per year.

Piranha are messy eater and come from a place where got a lot of current and water flow.

This information it's just from me, other piranha owner may have different way or/and information to give you.

The best way is the own the Rhomb and see it your self and learn from it.

Monkey Brain sums it up quite well.

With a Rhomb, the bigger the tank the better. You might have some luck with a pleco or something, but don't bet on it. I have a Geryi and Gibbus with a pleco or two, and has worked well for some time now.

They all have their own personality as Monkey said. You will enjoy, they are lots of fun, very addictive though.

Thanks for the advice! I'm thinking a 75g would be good to start it out in, then once it gets bigger, progress to a 125 or so. Dont know what kind if Rhom I'm going to get, as I dont know all about the different sp. of Rhom...

Here, go to www.aquascapeonline.com

They will have pictures of different Rhombs. They are missing the Venezualan Rhomb, but you can see a great pic on this site thanks to Gasman I believe.

Thanks! I was going to just go to Massive Agression and look but I couldnt find there site link for some reason.

My Favorite P's are: Peru rhoms, Guyana Rhoms, Gold Rhoms, Pirayas, and "Super Red" RBP.

I'm thinking I'd have more fun keeping some RBP's as I could keep more then one with less space than it would take to house just one Rhom.

I'm really like Pirayas, "Super Red" RBP, Caribes, and Ternetzi.
