I own a 4inch Albino oscar fish and it seems very healthy, and his/her's color seems brighter ever since i started feeding him pellets, but i still feed him/her frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. from this i have a couple questions.

1. How can I tell my Oscar's gender?

2. How can I tell whats my Oscar's favorite food/snack?

3. Is it safe to feed my Oscar a earthworm that is found outside and after its clean?

Please help, Thank you ^___^ :naughty:

Gender - most will tell you that you'll need to stick a tube up their vent or see them breed. I like the visual-venting method myself. If it's a boy, the vent holes will look loke this o o . If it's a girl, a mature girl, the vent will look like this o O . Makes sense to me, but I haven't been able to verify it, since I've never bred Oscars. :(

Favorite snack? Most Oscars love anything meaty as a snack. Honestly, anything.
For christmas once, I bought my Oscar a red male betta. You should've seen him spring to life. Made a pretty turd, too.

Earthworms rate highly on preferred live foods for many fish, including Oscars. Just be sure there hasn't been any pesticide sprayed or other toxins around. I have to ask my landlord because he comes by without warning and poisons the ground for kicks. Herbicidal jerk...

The amount you feed your fish, though, is directly proportional to the size tank he is in and you water change schedule.

1. How can I tell my Oscar's gender? Not in till they breed.

2. How can I tell whats my Oscar's favorite food/snack? Oscars are not picky eaters.

3. Is it safe to feed my Oscar a earthworm that is found outside and after its clean? I wouldn't. Pesticides, Fertilizer,Etc can be bad for your fish.

1. Venting is the only true way to determine a cichlids gender. i will let a more experienced cichlid owner explain that one to u.

2. what ever food he eats the most of and quickest. when i owned a ray she would always pounce on massivore pellets but i never really got the reaction from NLS, frozen or other Hikari pellets. with that being said i determined that massiove was her fav food. EXPERIMENT

3. if the area has been sprayed with pesticides i would never even dream of feeding a worm to my fish. also, theres always the chance of getting internal parasites when u feed any live food. if the fish eats pellets and other nutritious foods i don't really see the point in feeding it live. other then amusement..

Oh, also i want some tankmates for my oscar,
In the past my oscar have killed a Aro and a Pelco that i've put in there
is there any suggestions? My oscar is currently 4inchs i wanna have another tankmate in there that is good looking and about the same size. please reply and thank you :)

Normally, I'd agree with you whole-heartedly, but how successful would a parasite be that had to get from to worm to fish and back to worm again?
[ Crazy advice ]
Get another Oscar.

What do you think you're doing? He is already afraid of being flamed for his microscopic tank and you tell him to add another fish?

At least educate the boy!
This is a pelco http://www.pelco.com/
You have a pleco. In a tiny tank.

You could try a JD.

At my local fish store, i've seen them selling some live ghost shrimp. I wanna try getting a dollar's worth and see if my oscar can eat them, Would it work? or would it harm the oscar?
Also, is it a good idea to have a crab in my tank? i really wanna spice up my tank lol all i have in there is the Oscar and a plastic plant >.<;;;
