I took two NY strip staeks out of the freezer to thaw for last Thursdays dinner, and got side tracked (Pizza that night) and forgot about them until I went for a beer today. The thaw was strictly from freezer directly to extremely cold mini beer refrigerator.

These are the individually vaccum sealed type that are still tightly vaccum sealed.

I am too afraid to eat them now, but I was wondering if it would be safe to feed my snaping turtles, and possibly even my large mouth bass.

What do you think?

One time couldn't hurt them, especially the snapping turtle. I fed my puffer a hot dog the other day. It didn't really agree with her because of the fat content I think but she's perfectly fine. If you don't feel comfortable, give it to a friend that has a dog. I hate to waste food.

i'm pretty sure turtles can't properly digest meats from non-aquatic animals.

I have no idea about the turtle. After a few beers I probably would eat them. It's fine throw them on a grill and eat them yourself.

The steaks are fine to eat for you, I wouldn't give a snapper meat in large quantities... A bite, sure.

Thanks.

I am also too afraid to give Jingle (Bichon-Poo) week old steak, but luckily I also have woods on my property and plenty of Fox and Racoons that will love me.

I think I will try on small slice for the Snappers but do so with one of those 2 ft. gripper thingys. I get nervous about how "friendly" the big snapper is when I go down and throw hand fulls of floating pellets into the pond for the Green Sunfish and golden shinner minnows.

It comes right up to me to eat pellets, but I am chicken to attempt hand feeding it.

The turtle will be fine, and he will thank you for it.
A snack now and then is good - just like with fish - and yes, they can digest non-aquatic meat perfectly fine. They eat frogs, snakes, the occasional bird and rodent, in nature.
I have two - one of which I've had for quite a few years now. They always have gotten a diverse, mixed diet, including meats.

I was shocked that one of the two LMB seemed extremely interested in the NY strip that I was feeding to the non-shy snapping turtle.

I tossed a chunk to it and it hit it like crazy, and did the same thing to the second chunk! The Snapper made a pig of itself and I wound up having no steak left to throw into the woods for the Foxes and Racoons.

One steak down, one to go.
