I had an african cichlid that dove out of the tank to catch a moth. I had the lid open for feeding and I guess he got carried away. Don't worry he survived the fall... but gave me quite the scare. The only thing I would worry about with crickets from around your house is the pesticides. Big risk that I wouldn't take. You can buy crickets from the pet store pretty cheap. My Red Devils enjoy them on occasion... just make sure you feed the crickets for a few days before feeding them to the Devils so they actually have some nutritional value. (most pet store crickets are not fed and really hold no nutritional value for your fish) I usually put a potato peel in with the crickets or a small slice of apple for a few days. ... Hope that helps
