Is it ok to remove my entire substrate for a day?

I don't underdtsnd the reason for removing it. If you stir and vac when you do water changes then this would only serve to calm a case of OCD.

Stir and vac your aquarium with water changes, then after a year or so remove your entire *sand* substrate and tell me you dont see any undesirable elements underneath. If your tank is absent said elements than kudos to you, you run a far more well tuned aquarium than I.

I would like to do this one day but last time I removed the substrate I managed to send my tank in to a mini cycle :|

'I stir it up and vacuum regularly, but I want to suck it all out,'

Then there's no need. 2 years is nothing. Stop stirring.. let things break down. Just vacuum.
Why destroy most of your bio filter and reek such havoc in the tank, for nothing?
Do it if you wish to change the substrate or any practical purpose but not for the fish because better off left in peace,,, with just proper maintenance and feeding.
