How about UVB?

A normal heat lamp does't put out UVB rays, which are vital to the health of aquatic turtles.

Ahh....good point! I ment to ask that in my second post. I firmly believe that all basking turtle species should have access to UVB lighting. Heck, I even use a UVB bulb on my Stinkpot Musk Turtle even though he never basks.

I don't know its a EXO TERRA brand and its called a Sun Glo Neodymium Basking Spot Lamp 150 W, is this OK I thought it was for UVA Rays to harden the shell when basking. Whats the difference uva uvb

Thanks

Your lamp is fine for now, but I would pick up something that gives off UVB rays when you get a chance. In the summer you can just put your turtle outdoors to bask a few hours a week. Then you wouldn't have to worry about what kind of bulb you had during the warm months of the year.

In short, reptiles convert UVB rays into Vitamin D3 which helps them utilize calcium. They do benefit from UVA rays but they aren't that necessary. Plants need UVA rays more then reptiles do.
