Most acrylic tanks have small openings on closed top. Is it possible to custom build acrylic tanks with either open top or have say 60% open? I have never seen one like that but is it possible or just not safe.

I am referring to bigger tanks like 6'x2'x2' or bigger.

yes it should be fine, they usually do this to keep from bowing in tank. most acrylic tanks I have seen that are more open tend to have a euro brase style to help strengthen the tank.

sorry my spelling is off today, euro brace. Basically it is strips of about 2-4+" that runs around the lip of the tank. I am not sure how to explaine it well.. the strips would basically firm up the sides to keep from bowing the side walls. The tank wall would be vertical, the euro brace is horizontal.

Yeah, Euro bracing is probably the way to go. You could make a rimless tank, but it would require much thicker material.

you can always frame the top with say an 8 inch border up top to hold all the corners together and still allow a large opening. or you could cross brace it from front to back like many large tanks do

8" border for tanks up to how wide? For a 2ft wide tank, the opening would be 8" after the border, about the same if not smaller than the standard opening.

sorry i didn't look at the dimensions. for that sized tank, you should just add cross braces from front to back if you are concerned.

may i ask what reason you want the top completely open and uncovered?
