Has anyone even bred these fish yet in a tank. Naturally of course without injected with hormones or etc.

I am really getting interest in my Florida gars. Might be something t accomplish in a larger tank.

bump, i'm interested too. sol any chances of this happening with my cubans?

 Dude it's cool to love your fish, but not like that.
You would have to have a BIG tank if you are going to get in it and try to breed with your fish. Also, my Gar have just got used to getting petted so don't be suprised if they are scared a little the first time. Just like me back in jr. high when it was my first time.
You might want to start out slow, maybe buy it a drink and see where it goes from there. Remember, just cause you are really interested in them doesn't mean they feel the same way about you.

Okay, okay back on topic now. I've been googling and can't find a scrap of anything about even breeding gars as a species.

:ROFL:took me a while to get it. my cubans would prolly snap my fingers off if i tried to "pet" them

probably not gonna happen in a tank....

As far as i know there is no sexual dimorphism between males and female Gars.you'd need to do blood tests.
Yes they are aquacultured in central America as a food.
Sol will know more about this.
There was an arty in TFH magizine back in 2005 I can't recall the issue tho.-Anne

I found it interresting even tho they used Gonadotropic hormones (ovaprim)
