is it safe to go rimless?

thanks for the heads up danz. i will re reusing the original framing. i will also be adding 2 more cross braces for the top in addition to the one in the middle. this is for added support and to have something to mount my lights to =D. right now im doing a search for good silicone that i can get from home depot... not really cost efficient for the small aquarium sealant when i want to make heavy seals...

The plastic trim/frame does not have enough strength to be considered in the overall strength of the tank. It had nothing to do with the failure of your tank. The plastic could have been broken years before you got it.
