I found a 75 gallon tall tank on craigslist that comes with a stand but the stand is made of MDF (medium density fiberboard). Is this strong enough to support the weight of the tank? Would it be worth it to trade my 55 gallon and stand (open with 1 shelf made of oak) for this one straight up? Trade would include his tank, stand (cabinet, canopy, filter, heater) for my tank, stand, filter, heater.

I don't trust fiberboard at all with tanks. It also depends on how its built. Is the top of the stand glued/nailed inbetween the two sides or is it glued/nailed on top of the two sides? Most are the former.

I concur stay away from tall tanks... my first tank I got was a 150tall it was the biggest mistake I made in fish keeping, though it is the reason I got the 220 so maybe it was meant to happen :D

MDF stands are cheap, but , they seem to do the job. My 90gal is
on one right now, i don't trust it 100% but it's all i got for that tank right now,..

mdf stands are fine till they get wet... once they get wet you are on borrowed time..

as for the tall tank... ehh... if you like it then great.. ive never liked them though i do have a 25tall.. but its just for breeding cherry shrimp

Thanks for the info. I was planning on putting a flowerhorn in it. The dimensions are 31 x 38 x 16.5. I've always liked the she of the 55 also, but I need a bigger tank for the FH.
