Is it the water?

Agreed if you have that much water and everything else you better be doing larger water changes so the ph from the tap and tank are the same. No reason to have the ph that low something is off. Agreed till it clears out up the water changes allot.

I lost a beautiful black diamond female due to a jump in ph after a large water change. My tap water is typically 7.0- I did a big change after a heavy rain storm not thinking it would effect my well water. Long story short the rain did effect it and the ph jumped up to 8.2. It didn't bother any of my other fish or rays but stressed the bd female out big time. She stopped eating, breathed heavily and died within a couple days even though I brought the ph back down to 7.2. The stress did her in. I will now never do another water change without checking the tap first, it was a very expensive learning experience. Good luck.
 
Sorry for your loss ....So I text to a friend who lives a mile away. He has same size tank 2 big rays and some chiclids in his tank and he said his ph from tap is the same and tank is same as mine. So maybe something else?

Also if I did larger water change my thought would be more of a chance of a fluctuation in ph.

Not enough water changes

Your ph should be up at 7 if thats what your tap is. Large bio loads cause your ph to drop faster.

Your mission needs to be to get your ph back up to 7 over the next few weeks. Dont you have a drip?

I agree trev I do have a drip and have not used in a while prob should. So why is freinds tank showing no singns of stress. And my other tank has same ph issue with no signs of stress?

The difference is most likely the fish load and possible overfeeding.
 
Check KH. You need to ensure your KH is appropriate to keep your PH stable so id suggest crushed coral. You cant compare two different system or compare to another persons tank because of the fact that the load can be different, water changes vary, well water in your case is most likely different. Aeration also may be lacking and definitely use your drip system. Also always think of possible external tank possibilities like using scented candles, perfumes, air fresheners, cleaning products etc. this stuff kills fish and people usually don't even clue into that being a cause.

Ok thx I will check kh.I think it will take a lot of crush coral to change ph. Also place new carbon on filters and running my drip again. So I get that I cant compare to other tanks but the fact still remains that these other tanks have a higher tap ph and lower tank ph and showing signs of no stress. So these other tanks have to be over crowded with too much waste right?

They aren't your tanks man, if someone else has a ph crash it's not your problem. There may be another detail about their setup that you are overlooking that is not stressing out their fish, or maybe they aren't healthy and on the verge of bad stress. Not to be blunt, obviously we care, but care about your stuff first and make it proper. If you add crushed coral rinse it very throughly as it will throw your tds through the roof.
