Almost except my fish has stripes running down entire lenth of body, the stripes are kinda white and goldish. The "beak"looks the same. After reading a few of these posts i am now hoping my LFS was incorrect. What do you think??
strips have got me stumped . I once had a gray pike-head(luciocephalus pulcher) witch i suppose could be mistaken at that size for a gar.....(just a stab in the dark)

Skillzdatkillz has a pic in 1 of his posts,my Gar has the same colors, but mine has stripes down his entire length of body.

ill see if i can track it down;)

if i have got the right pic it is a florida.... but track down the same pic that you saw and let us know witch tread it is on..and im sure the more experienced chaps and chap'ets can help

i am guessing that the gars in both of the above posts are Florida gars. i know aquascape has only had Florida gars as of late, and MIGHT be getting gators in in a week or so.

from the pattern description of the main gar in question, it sounds like a Florida gar, or at least very likely a Lepisosteus species as opposed to Atractosteus (the latter of which is the alligator gar genus) --
