You paid about average price. Coupla years ago they were going for around $250-$300
Good to know that lots of peeps are breeding them. Hopefully they'll be averaging $30 bux a pop by 2010.
Never going to happen. Thinking more down to earth would be if they come down to $100 for a 1" baby by 2010. Even if they are allowed to be wild caught again, there will be strict limits.

and i thought 75$ for a L128 pleco was alot!
Even if that was an adult 7", southern bright blue, with yellow spots, that is way too much. The average price I pay for 4" L128 is $14.99.

With good coloring?? wowww

L128 are pretty cheap, 75 is way too much, even with good coloring. About the zebra size, ive seen one that was 12cm a year back. it was in possesion of a breeder who had it for like 10 years. and yes, it deffo was a zebra ;)

on the other hand, i dont understand why prices go up as more and more people seem to breed them. its not like they are that special anymore. if you want, everybody can buy a couple of them these days...

The reason isn't so much supply, it is the demand end of it. THere are still only a small handful of breeders, with no wild population to supply the trade. Since it is in the hands of the breeders, the price is up to them.

i know its demand mate, but like i said, you can buy them everywhere nowadays... i know 3 shops here that sell them, and not just one... its soo easy to get a few...

a L46 wouldnt be 5". A fish is worth what you are willing to pay. zebra plecs will easily come down in price, and probably quite quick. the demand for these are usually from breeders, or people trying to get into breeding them. they are becoming one of the number one fish to breed. they produce so much fry. people already breeding them are getting more frequent batches of more and more fry. You can buy young at around 100-150£ here in the UK. prices will come down eventually, dont get me wrong it'll be a few years, but when everyone are at the stage they are breeding F2s, they will be a more affordable price, and it will probably happen in europe before america. There are other hypancistrus that are far rarer in the hobby now than the L46 ;) its the same with people breeding rare dart frogs, they'll be in fashion, everyone will breed them, demand will go. in my opinion money like that is much better spent on a few other species. I think if you were to try to breed them to make money and you havent bought adults, I wouldn't be suprised if you'll miss the boat with these.
