Hey there everyone! This is my first post here on MFK! Anyway, I just wondering if my aquarium is overstocked or have compatibility issues. I've never an aquarium this big, and I don't know if my tank is overstocked :grinno:. My Bioload is really good and my filtration is excellent. My gph is 1200. Anyway, here's my stock list:

1 Silver Arowana
1 Fire Eel
1 Black Ghost Knife Fish
1 Tiger Datnoid (not sure which yet...)
3 Tinfoil Barbs
3 Ropefish

Is it overstocked? The fire eel and the silver arowana will eventually get replaced once it outgrows the tank. If my tank is not overstocked, I'm considering on adding 2 or 3 more fishes. Here are my options:
A) 2 Ropefish
B) 2 Senegal Bichir
C) 2 Featherfin Squeaker
D) 3 Needlefish (needle nose gar)

Which letter choice should I go? I would also like to know any other mid-top dwelling large oddball fish (large enough to not get eaten by these monsters xD). I've considered a school of Leopard Ctenopomos (7) but I couldn't find a place that sells it for less than 20 per... Thanks!

Leopard ctenopoma are cheap if you grab them from petsmart, $9 a piece generally.

With leatherfins, go with one or a bunch. Two just tend to fight a lot.

Not too bad...silver aro is going to out grow your tank in a year and half.

I have both tinfoil barbs and varius forms of red hook silver dollars. I have to say, I prefer the SDs. A little calmer not as greedy.

@ecoli73
As I said, I will replace the fire eel and arowana as it outgrows the tank. I also at one point considered RHSD, but, they were herbivorous and destroys plants... so I just decided to do a carnivorous tank.
@shipmonkey
Well, at my local petsmart, they only carry african leaves, not the leopards... I could also just ask my lfs to order them cheap... and thanks for the info on squeakers. There were some threads saying they were aggressive towards each other.

I'm currently leaning on the trio of needlefish or two ropefish. I think the bichirs will get eaten because at my lfs, they're only 4 inches :/ and the squeakers are aggressive towards each other. Which is the better choice?

I don't think the eel will outgrow the 180.

I don't think the eel will outgrow the 180.

It does have the potential to, considering these fish can grow upwards of 36"+ and put on A LOT of girth...

Overstocked is such a benign term, imo its relative to husbandry, bio load and stock. In your case today your tank may not be grossly "overstocked" but if your nitrates read more then what's in my savings account then yes your overstocked and either need to remove some fish, get a bigger tank and practice the ulmighty art of the "waterchange!"

Just research a little more before you throw that many fish in there next time. Spark a common theme amongst the tank that your fish will benefit from! It will not only create a balanced environment for them but it will also carry heavy on the point of FK- enjoyment of a balanced and healthy glass rectangle!

Do you have any pictures to accompany your thread?
