right now i have a 5" Green terror, a 5" green severum and a 2.5" rainbow. when all these fish are adults will they be able to survive with eachother in a 55 gallon?

In general, we don't play the overstocked game here on MFK. It is a sign of amaturism (sorry to imply). You didn't mention what you have for filtration, but there will be at least ten amatures to pipe in saying that it is overstocked. Many of us successfully keep population levels that are considered impossible on other sites. The Japanese have been doing it for centuries. Over filtration and faithful maintenance are the key to a well populated tank. When you find someone with an "overstocked" tank, instead of flaming, ask them what they have for filtration and what they do for their regular maintenance. There is always much to learn.

in general thats pretty close to what people would call overstocked once they all reach full size, but as chompers has pointed out, this is MFK and i'd say it could be accomplished with some work.

If they were more mild-mannered/less territorial species, I'd say you would be fine (with the above mentioned, proper filtration & maintenence) but you are dealling with aggresssive, territorial species, without a lot room for territories.

I think that will work just fine.

my filtration is pretty good it is an AC110, 500GPH, i do a 30% water change every 2 weeks. the only reason i ask is because i would like to add maybe 1 or 2 more fish. i didn't mean to sound like an ammature i just wanted to know everyones opinion.

You should be fine. ive seen severums that are huge over 10 in and would make a 55 look small, but that is the exception not the rule.

Only thing I'd worry about is the green terror murderizing your other fish when he gets older lol.

On any tank I have over 50g, I use the same AC & add a canister, like an Eheim. I'd also be doing 50% WC weekly.
