I have had pet bass (spotted I think) for about 4 months. He seems to have gotten a parasite because I see him rubbing on rocks and spasms as well. I used the tablet treatment the last couple of days and now he won't eat. Usually he takes worms right out of my hand, but now I have to drop them and he will suck them in and spit them out over and over. I also have a problem with algae reoccurring. Is there a good tank treatment out there that you have used that works well and is safe for a native fish? Thanks!

:welcome: First off welcome to MFK and you've choose a great site to get help on. This could be a skin parasite or it could be jsut regular scratching (My bass does the same thing occassionaly) as for the eating, is the tank fully cycled and have you added any new tank mates lately? Try checking the parameters as well.

Sorry, that pic isnt recent. Just a reference. Also, what do you mean fully cycled? Sorry, I'm new to this.

He means that you fully completed your nitrogen cycle. Your rising ammonia gives way to a nitrite spike and builds your nitrates that will keep your ammonia and nitrite in check. You want you ammonia to be 0, but less than .50 ppm and nitrite should be zero.

Is there a post on here that explains the proper procedures for the cycle? I don't do anything right now except change 25% of the water weekly.
