How are your Cons doing now?

Don't bother wasting money on so called bacteria in a bottle 'Cycle' or whatever it's called. Beneficial bacteria needs a source of ammonia, plus running water/oxygen to keep it alive, so it's not going to stay live for long in a bottle on a fish shop's shelf.

Waterchanges are the only thing you need, but plenty of them. Daily large waterchanges when you are doing a fish-in cycle.

They seem to be doing good, the male has been moving around alot and has started to pick up gravel an places it where he wants.

They are down to two platys, and ive been checking the water every night an keeping a log, so far only the Ph has gone up alittle. Ammonia is staying at .25ppm, no No2/No3 yet.

Should I keep doing the 25% WC?

Because im started to think alot of the males odd behavior was stress from a new environment.

Continue waterchanges, and also as suggested get a test of what's in your water as well.

As long as there is still ammonia detected in the water, there is still not enough bacteria to break it down.

Agreed.

I'd up the w/c to 50% as well to try and get that ammonia reading down to 0 a.s.a.p.

Glad they seem perkier :) My little Con never stops picking around for food, such a greedy little thing.

I think that's just a Convicts nature. I have 3, and they are always hungry lol

I agree, 50% waterchanges until no ammonia or anything else is present. Then I'd suggest 50% once a week after you get it all under control. When you do clean your filter, use the old tank water to clean debris off so you don't kill the bacteria.

Yep, and you shouldn't need to clean your filter that often, just when you notice the flow has dropped.
Don't be too vigorous when you rinse the media in the old tank water. It doesn't need to be squeaky clean, but clean enough to get the large particles off and any scum :)
