I just tested my water, and the 75gal with all the plants still reads 0ppm Nitrate. But the 55gal, with no Plants reads 10ppm Nitrates. Is 10ppm high? Low? Just right? It doesn't say on the box.

Also, this isn't related to this thread but, my angel fish are cleaning an area in the 55gal. Bad thing is it's the intake tube. I wonder if it's because I didn't do a water change this last weekend...
keep them under 20ppm and your golden, no risk at all to health of fish.
but that said i guess lower is better.

most fish dont die until nitrates are atleast in the 100's

i dont know about angel fish but there might be cleaning it to spawn. it could be since theres no stress of a water change this week they feel more comfortable.

Thanks, when they layed eggs in the same tank before, the male angelfish and a female gourami had a show down. But everyone is still living. What I don't understand is why they pic the filter intake, I mean, I have tons of fake plants in there, drift wood, rocks... I have them at all sorts of angles.

Some times the sewer bill is based on water consumption.... If that was the case here My wife would need to figure something out, like how to make water grow on trees. Maybe that's Pop's issue? But helping out around the house is a good negotiation tool too.

there probably trying to pick something out that has cover and is smooth, as some fish like a smooth surface to lay eggs on. or they may just generally have that defined as there territory in the tank

Ok, For the past couple of months they have been hanging out at that end of the tank. If they do lay eggs, I think that I know what to do so they don't get sucked into the filter.

I saw a video where someone put a car wash sponge over the intake. It kept the babys from getting sucked in.

hey! I'm a dad & I pay the water bills & I have 2 tanks but do major w/c on my 72gal BF. It pains me to use so much water but pains me even more if I don't take care of my discus juvies.

my angel tank I do major w/c once a month. so I think you can cut down based on your fish size & load.

compromise with dad cuz you will win the war by losing this battle! in the long run, you will make out in other times of your life when you need to compromise again with dad!

many of us growing up don't learn this lesson & we rebel argue fight back pout hold a grudge! but if we learn to compromise & negotiate with our parents, our lives will be less complicated & less agitated.

deal?

lol my wife say they same thing. I do 10% a day on 4 tanks everyday. I just say dun worry i'll water your flower with the water then i quickly dump it in the toilet or bath tub haha.
