Going by the fins I say female, but a lovely GT none the less.

:iagree:

OK so are the fins the only way to tell? Are you supposed to look for the whip/filament at the end of the dorsal. Someone please explain so If I try to get a male for her I can pick one accurately

There's a "Mr Firemouth" on here so there's gotta be a Mr or Mrs GT who can help right?

Thanks!

I'm quite certain that your GT is a male... It's difficult to figure out if the fish is male or female by looking at the fins alone. Your fish might just be starting to regrow its fins after damage from other fish at the store or wherever you got it from.

A good way to tell is by looking at the head and body shape of your GT. Female GT's tend to have a short and round body which your fish clearly does not have. I'm 99% certain that your GT is a male.

Nice lookin gt im going to geuss female because of the roundness and the coloration

GO PACK

RIP REGGIE

it is a girl. in a boy that size his fins will be pointed like hers are but much longer. they should trail out to his tail or even past it.

Thanks everybody. I have noticed a little extension started on the dorsal about 3 weeks ago. Just gona keep feeding her well (High protein incl. earthworms, krill and hikari gold pellets), sit back and see what happens. I have been particularly impressed with the increase in fin and body coloration over the last 2 months from feeding krill. That was a tip I took off of the GT thread in here. Thanks for all the help! Will add more pics down the road when this GT gets bigger.

just post the genital papilla of it and we'll tell.

Not sure what or where that is. If you explain I'll try to get pics of that area

Also what kind of fish is in your avatar? Looks like a flowerhorn or Trimac without the dark side markings...very cool! :headbang2
