im so confused lol. i am actually hoping it is a girl because its a good looking fish IMO and if i can get an even better looking male that would be great

Female to me short fins and body and I don't see the purplish tint males get although I could be wrong

Jags are fairly difficult to sex until they get large enough for their patterns to change. A trick I used to use was having a similar sized fish "challenge" the native tank mates. The males will almost always come forth and size each other up. If female it will investigate but wont flash its fins like the males do.

I could swear it's a male just because of the spot pattern developing above the lateral line.
