Is my Jaguar on some regime ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mojo, I was a bit confused as I clicked on the link as to why YOU would post a pic of a cichlid eating a feeder. Then like the internet sheep that I am, I watched the whole thing and realized I'd been had.

Lesson unnecessary for me as I would never put one of those malnourished, disease ridden, parisite infested vermin in one of my tanks...

BTW, it just cracks me up, the people on here that are talking about having their time wasted. You're browsing an internet aquarium website and you're worried about wasting time? Like you'd have been doing something important with the 2 minutes it took to download and watch that clip?

Get offline and go do a water change for God's sake...

Get your Jag on a good staple pellet diet...I'd highly recommend Hikari Cichlid Gold....
Then, you can supplement its diet with nightcrawlers, krill, lean beefheart(or chicken heart), prawn, shrimp, etc....

If you want to feed it the occasional feeder, make sure and quarentine the feeders for a couple weeks before doing so to make sure they're disease free.

...and like Mojo said, just feed what they're hungry for...If they're spitting food out and leaving it to foul your water, then you know you're feeding it too much...

Feeders tend to carry disseases that will infect your fish. Its very risky unless you have a quarenteen tank set up just for them. I have one just for goldfish. Since they have little to no nutrional value to them at all. I like to beef up my goldfish with Hakari Pellets, and bloodworms, as well as their flake food.
The diseases they can get will result in expensive meds to treat the infected fish as well as a quarinteen tank for the fish thats infected. There has been reports of diseases also being carried by Ghost Shrimp as well. Also if you feed a fish nothing but feeders that fish will wont really have any intrest in any other food. Hope this helps!

Thanks to all you guys

I shall try out all your suggestions, begining with the starving methods.

MFK truely rocks !! :cool-1:

----------------
cichlid savage : I have yet another pair of Jags about 4" in size, and they like you said eat happily anything that hits the water. I guess they get picky as they grow :)

carpediem : My dear friend, it took me well over 20 mins to download the video !! On a bad internet traffic day the difference between browsing an aqarium website and downloading a close to 10mb file is quite significant :)
