I 've had this male mototro for 2 weeks now. He has been eating for 2 weeks, non-stop, then suddenly, last Thursday, he did not eat anything. same Friday, Sat and today.:(

Since his loss of appetite, he is lethargic, looks like he is breathing slowly, does not swim on the glass like he used too. He often sits with the front of disc raised like he is trying to breathe.

Dont think its my water quality, cause the other female retic is in great health.

There was some white poo several days ago, but not any more.

I added salt 24 hours ago, and he is moving more, but not as active as before. Pelvic bones aren't showing yet, cause he was very fat before he stopped eating.

Attached are a couple pics, right under his eyes, the skin is gone WHITE (not the eye ball), this happened since he stopped eating. Does ny one know ehy this happens?

Any advice, or just keep waterchanges up. currently i do 50% x 2 / week. Is that enough? dont want to do too many waterchanges, as it may stress him out more.

u should check all ur water parameters and maybe think about getting some prazi pro, he might have an internal parasite. the white poop u mentioned can be a sign.

what do u feed him, he looks healthy from the pics given..

B4. This happened, he ate anything I put in the tank. He was over an 1 inch tall/thick, really fat, but no tummy is flatter. No bones showing yet.. And colour is still there.
Water tested good, but nitrates are as usual about 30. This is pretty much what comes out of tap.
I did use anti parasite med, kazuri wormer. Dose on last Thursday.
It says safe to use on rays. And checked
with a friend first.
It's just horrible knowin there is not much I can do for them.

just be patient now and keep the water as clean as possible.

do more ferquent water changes of less volume. try doing 30% every 2 days. 50% might be just alittle to much for a new ray.

have you checked your ph?

Polyfilter mate, ive had loads of problems with water this year, with usual ammonia, nitrite etc being fine but nasty things in tap water. Maybe add salt but only for max of 7 days, I added 2.4kg to my 800 litres which i think is max they could handle. So maybe add less salt than that and dont do wc for about 5 days. And maybe cut down on wcs, smaller ones best.

And maybe up the airation and add substrate which will reduce stress as he'll be able to hide then and feel secure

ide agree with the poly filter idea.

get a couple of pads in your system asap. it sounds like the dose of meds you gave them has had a bad affect on him. just because it says ray safe dont make it safe for every ray.

dont go mad with the salt just use a small amount, turn off lights, add polyfilter, do fequent small waterchanges, watch for any bullieing from other tank mates. since he is not well he is an easy target now and even a small amount of buillieing will only add to the problem. try not to disturb him a great deal.

also your keeping rays, its a good idea to get a test kit just to keep an eye on things and get to know your water. its fine saying one ray is fine so it carnt be the water, not all fish are affected the same by different problems.
ppl will come on and say "ive never used a test kit and never had a problem" so what youve been lucky. you dont need one but its a good idea.

some times you have water problems and you dont even know because your fish dont show any sighns of a problem, but if it dose happen you can nip it in the bud before its gets worse and causes problems. all for the sake of £18 and a bit of time.

yeah pull the med out with some fresh carbon. keep on eye on drastic pH changes. good luck.
