is my new senegalus bircher alright?

i bought a 3 to 4 inch senegalus bircher today from a well known fish retailor i got home and put it in my qt tank it was fine for a while then it started hanging around the top of the tank sort of floating but as soon as i open the tank lid or a fish goes near it it swims in a ship wreck ornament is this normal behaviour
i am worried about my new little guy

yeah they do that especially if you've got tall plants for them to hide in.i dont really know, but i think they may do that hoping to catch bugs that might land on the surface of the water
