Is my ornate sick?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okey, so its called ich larva.

I`m pretty sure I got rid of them. Havent seen signs of them I a long time now. And my ornate had the strange behavior before I got the "ich" (I bought some infected neontetras as food for him, then my "golden nugget" died).

But It maybe an other kind of parsite, that causes the scratcing. And I wonder if that has an connection to the curled fin??

Anyone else who knows how much salt to put in the tank?

A little bit of salt wouldn't hurt, about 6-7 table spoons (eating spoons) of salt would be good, you might also want to up your temperature to about 84 degrees.

I bought an ornate that had fins that were folded over. The petsmart that had him did not have him in the proper environment and was not feeding him a proper varied diet. But he was in this condition for a couple months, but if this is the same thing that your ornate has I am sure that some TLC early on will help him greatly.

:wall: :OMG: :WTF: why would you feed your fish diseased fish?!?!

:screwy:
I didnt know that the fish was diseased of course, didnt see any signs when id put them in my tank. Got rid of them once i noticed the dots.
Im not stupid

Bichirs can show unwanted reactions if the salt concentration gets too high. This reaction is easily recognizeable, as the fish is drifting on the surface with his belly showing upwards....

Increasing temperature is allways good for a bichir. Also it could require a variation in its diet.

Good luck
