Is My oscar pregnant???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fertilized eggs usually hatch in 3~4 days... then the babies are "wigglers" for 3~4 days... by day 7 you should have a little swarm of baby fish swimming around...

"Wigglers" are what we call baby fish after they hatch from the egg... but before they can swim. They just lay on the floor and wiggle. At this stag they do not need to be fed, as they still have an yolk sac attached to them which they feed from...

PS - if you look at my avatar... the white dots on the bottom of the tank behind my Oscar are unfertilized eggs...

The female Oscar in that pic is sterile... but still spawned with one of two males I had with her once a month for a couple years. She was highly aggressive when guarding her gimp eggs...

That picture was taken as she was racin gtoward the surface (pic taken from above tank)... and she flew out of the water and hit me in the chest... :P

Oscar are fun fish...

What's the suspected father doing while the suspected mother is hiding in the rocks?

the faster is just layin around, goun about the the rock that the female is under and 1 time whe the pleco got close he kkinda chased him off

You will have a % that are white and a % that are not... depending on the genetic make up of the parents... it's possible they will all be normal...

It's also possible the suspected mother is simply hiding from the suspected father... Ya won't know until she comes out... either with babies or with an empty stomach looking for a meal... I still wouldn't disturb her though. Regardless of why she's in there... she feels safer in there...

I'd leave her be....
