The land of the pine
So, i just caught a redfin pickerel for my 60 gallon today and he wont move. he just sits there with his gills and fins moving and thats all. Is he in shock from the temperature change? its not very much of a change. he has live plants to hidein but he wont. he just sitsthere looking at the glass. is he gunna die?

stressed out or something.
i just dont want it to die, ive been trying to get one forever and i finally got one. they are really rare here.:(

was the hook in deep or something?? Did you handle it alot? I've caught some of perch and bass and they were all so active in tanks. post pics?

I'd just ensure that there's enough oxygen in the tank (surface movement), that the tank isn't too warm (would lessen the amount of oxygen) and I'd turn the light off or dim the tank to help it calm down

PS: I have no experience with pickerels but generally when a fish acts like this, the above is what I do to help it out some. It does sound stressed and possibly a bit of trouble breathing which is why I mentioned the oxygen exchange/surface movement

Yeah just give it some time to adjust. The fish is probably shocked from being in captivity since it was living in the wild its whole life.
