Is my puffer a Green Spotted Puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup its a GSP and as others mentioned you can start slowly increasing the salinity now, just got to step it up gradually and should be all good...

Thanks for the info guys, I guess I need a new aquarium for it then...

Min 55g is what I would use. You might MIGHT get away using tap for a SW fowlr, but watch out for algae. You'll need a skimmer eventually. Big wc's with high salinity is expensive.

I was way off. I only increased salinity .002 a week. Takes .004 & add it to whatever you have now to up your sg by .002 a week.

1.000 + 1.004 = 1.002
1.002 + 1.006 = 1.004
1.004 + 1.008 = 1.006
1.006 + 1.010 = 1.008
Continue on up until you reach 1.020 - 1.022

That's a lot of info to take in, but its not a right now thing just work up to it. One of the best puffers to keep imo and well worth the effort

Get a 5 gal bucket and a cheap Craigslist filter. Go to your lfs and clean then out of their pond snails in the plants. Try to get some big enough to breed. Set the bucket up and breed snails for food. They should give you the snails

If these don't fit your bill. Look for figure 8 puffers. They have that nice pattern, very low end brackish 1.005, & you can keep in a smaller tank due to being half the size of an adult gsp. Not as aggressive so you might get away with gobies, but just as interactive.

I had a gsp years ago. Comical little guys. Deff didnt tolerate any tankmates after a certain size though. Super fin nipper

Slowly raise the level. I believe it's .05 a week until in full salt to keep from killing your bacteria. I kept mine in full marine fowlr (fish with live rock) from like 3" up. They get to the size of a small nerf football and need high crunch diet. Snails, crustaceans, clams on the half shell, etc

whats the smallest tank i can keep it in?
