is my red terror acutally a red terror? (pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my Mayan gets along fine with my green terror and the Mayan is alot bigger than the gt. the mayan likes to hide alot or sleep in his rock, but when hes up there other fishes get out of his way.

the mayan grows alot quicker than the green terror.

and petsmart said ti would reach a maximum size of 8".... thats what i get i guess... :(

don't believe the little stickers on tanks describing the species in petsmart, or other LFS at that. as they are almost always wrong. IMO should be sued for false information or something. ;)

Yeah but on their fish labels, all the fish are underquoted on max size. lol I guess with Petsmarts tank-size recommendations, the fish WILL be that size because they're STUNTED.

tehbluebeast, how big are your GT and Uro? oh and what size tank are they in? I guess it's true what they say every cichlid has it's own personality. Sometimes you just get lucky and fish will click. It's awesome and then we always go and screw up the balance by adding something else. LOL sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.

they are under-quoted becasue they just want to sell more fish. period.

That and also because quite often the tanks are set up for children and by the time the fish is that big the kids are attached and, GUESS WHAT MOM AND DAD?! Petsmart has bigger tanks for Mr. Fishy who was only supposed to be 8 lil inches.

ill just keep doing the same than, i almost got a flower horn, but it was diseased, and i dont want nohthing to do with that so i got what was suppose to be a "RT"...oh well...

Kep in mind also that if this is really a RT, then it could reach 20" :WHOA: and will definitely need a bigger tank than 55. probably double that. I've often read about people keeping them alone or in pairs because they can be such a handful. Good luck

It's 100% not a Red Terror (Festae). It is a false RT/mayan/C Uropthalmus. It shouldn't grow more than 12" or so and is still a very cool fish when he reaches maturity. Just not as attractive as a true festae.
