Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and just got a stingray recently! I'm not sure if my stingray is actually eating, how do I be sure? And some times it swimmings all the way up the tank and pokes out of water alittle. Is something wrong? Or is it normal? For now I've been feeding frozen bloodworms, is there any special way to feed it or can I just dump the block of worm in and let it dissolve till the bits fall onto the ground and the ray will eat them? Was thinking of trying prawns or glass shrimps. Thanks for your advice and do teach me! :grinno:

when i first got my stingray he would not eat for about a week, but you got to keep with it. personally i would hold the cube of bloodworms in my fingers and then lay my hand on the bottom of the tank palm up and the ray would come take it right out of my hand. i also found out that earthworms are great for them to. it will take time but youve got to be patient and dont give up!

thanks for the speedy response trevor! did the method of hand feeding only work after that first week? And how big were the earthworms that you used? those thick fat ones? Cos i live in singapore and most LFS only sell those very small ones or only meal worms.

Only one thing to add, you should thaw frozen food before serving. I just do it in a small mug of tank water, only takes a min or two.

Well i had a little more trouble i was mislead by my lfs and when i put the ray in he was attacked to make along story short i removed the attackers and then started the attemps to feed him like you i started with bloodworms he wouldnt eat for about the first week i think because he was stressed from the attack.
You should try and feed him with your hand just place your hand and the food about 8" in front of the ray and wait for it to come to you if he doesnt dont get to worried just try other foods. You cand try krill using the same method or prawn or shrimp. I prefered to use earthworms the ones you buy that are small are perfect just break little pieces off a little biger than an inch and hold them inbetween your fingers. Just keep trying it can take time but it will all be worth it. Good Luck keep us posted and post pics!

Apparently, feeding food that is still frozen causes upset stomach. Someone gave me that advice when I was having trouble with a gourami, it helped. TBH I mainly do it now so that my corries and rams can get at a few of the worms before my angels inhale them.
Beautiful ray BTW, looks a little stressed, I bet he looks an eats better in a week or two.
