Is my tank cycling "ok"? With Pics!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Caught this guy just now. Fire or bristle? I think its a bristle, he had sand throughout his intestinal tract. Sorry for the bad quality pick, he was just so curled up it was hard to get a close up of him.

This is just the start of funky stuff you will find...there is more to come.

That one looks a little bristle-wormy...but both have spines on the side of them, and both come in a myriad of colors. Both can be slightly irritating as well if you get them on you. Fireworms are obviously considerably worse.

Buy a six line, he should eat them if you dont like them.

Ill def pick one up if they start to become out of hand!:D

Last night I looked at my tank in the dark with a red light, mostly to see if I could see anymore fire/bristle worms. Anyhow I saw a bunch of other stuff I've never seen before, but I did see a bunch of what appeared to be worms. I grabbed the rock it was on and looked at it under some light and it was a starfish. This starfish had a hard, almost circular center and the arms were clear/white and looked like small worms. Any ideas?

cycling the tank is always patience and thats what you need and yes its going just fine

Asterina star possibly. Super duper common in the trade.

Are they harmful? Or just an innocent bystander?

They eat algae...nocturnal. Some people say that they eat corals, but...they dont. Or at least not to the point where I have noticed in my tank.

I caught another one last night that was fairly large. I'm not out to eradicate them from my tank but I have read some hoar stories about infestation so Im just going to remove them when I see them moving along the sand

My ammonia is starting to drop and everything!!!!!!! Just did a test on it. What should my next step be? The guy at the LFS said clowns are fairly hardy and they have them for like $13. Should I pick one of these guys up?
