no to both. You may have anaerobic bacteria but don't count on it. I was giving you possibilities of what can consume nitrates.

Now take your test kit and test for sulfer dioxide, copper sulfate, dioxin, potassium nitrate, strontium 98, irridium, and plutonium. Can't do it, can you? That is why you need to do water changes. Other stuff builds up in the water that you can't test for. When you do a water change after these mystery compounds have built up, the fish are subjected to a radical perameter change. This in turn causes stress in your fish which in turn can cause a reduced immune system which in turn can lead to any number of diseases or "mystery death".

oh, one more thing. Anaerobic bacteria "exhale" sulfur dioxide which is what causes the fart smell. If your waste water smells like this, the fish are getting a constant dose of it. Sulfur dioxide in consentration or long exposure is not good thing.

ya, i wansnt gonna stop doin water changes... i actually just did 2....

its just weird to me that my tanks have no nitrates...... oh well, i just leave it at that.....
im gonna stick to my religios daily water changes

Nitrate is only an indicator molecule. It generally builds up faster than most dangerous compounds in the aquarium. Just because its not there doesnt mean the water is clean or in good condition. It is only one of many pollutatents. You have to do water changes to keep your fish in proper health. Daily water changes are a great practice!

Daily changes certainly are a good practice. It would be nice if more people here had that kind of dedication. There is a lot of "don't ask, don't tell" people here. Just like the old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

i do daily water changes beceause i feel that if u have fish in a box u better have that box clean as a whistle... i also have a tendency to slighty overstock my tanks as u can see...... theres just not enuff room around here for enuff tanks, so i make due.

i know people that have never changed the water in their tanks....

for example, the sschool that my bro and sis go to has a 10 gallon with 2 foot long goldfihs in it (had neways) that has never had the water changed. i told them that they needed to fix that, and that id take the goldies off their hands and replace them with sumthing more school ferindly. they looked at me really funny and said "they're goldfihs... they can live in a bowl". i got super pised and left. then i came back a week later and one of them was dead... dead and just sittin there. when i told them they siad they hadnt even noticed..... now theres 2 more in there........ so 1 foot long and 2 3inchers...... i hate ignorance....

im gonna sneak in there with a skimask on and steal the fish and repalce them with stuffed fish and theyll never know:D

so ill keep doing what ive been doing, its seems to work......
