is my water right?

Live rock when cured will not have a foul or dead fish smell. Also, I do not reccomend doing a water change until your amonia or nitrites start to slide. I only do a water change when my nitrates hit 40 when cycling. I let it run its course. It has worked excellent for me in 5 tanks doing it this way. If you do a water change too soon you can run the chance of an amonia spike after you add fish, and also it is wise to add all the live rock you are going to use when starting the tank. This is just my opinion and I have several salt tanks that are tough as nails and going strong, Oh and you may have an algea bloom at first but not to worry, its going to happen the first month as the tank settles in. "disclaimer"... IMO.

lol
i got a superskimmer 220...
the rock did not smell like death when i bought it ... it was out of the water for 2-3 hours on the way home and dinner...i would have noticed it in my dads car

If you get live rock again like that, get some newspaper and get it wet, then cover the rock with it and it will keep it wet for the drive home. The drive without water may have killed alot of organisms and bacteria depending on how long the drive was, but on the good side, it most likely killed any bristle worms that were in the rock.

they were... moist paper towel... lots of it
