I need to repair something, and the only silicone I can get here is the normal DIY clear silicone. There are a few different types, but I seem to remember reading that standard clear silicone is fish safe. Is this right?

Thanks.

It should say that it is safe for food contact surface. Some arent. I think the GE type1 is safe for aquarium, but I'm not 100% sure.

Joe in the uk most packages will note if the sealant is safe for aquariums. some sealants contain chemicals to inhibit the formation of mildew, mold and these are the ones toxic to fish.

Agree with the above, don't get it from Poundland.
