Recently, our bearded dragon has been eating MUCH less than normal. It looks alright and isn't inactive or anything, but I'm worried because suddenly it quit eating as much (been going on for a couple of months). Also, can you tell what sex it is?

110 under the lamp, and room temp on the other end.

its a male. They only eat 3x a week for me as adults so you dont really need to feed them everyday.

not true

Signs of metabolic bone disease include hard knobs in the long bones of the legs, bumps along the vertebral column of the back and tail, bilateral softening or hard swelling of the lower jaw, and softening of the plastron or carapace. All of these signs may be felt before they can be seen, making a careful physical exam important. Visible signs of moderate to severe MBD include jerky gait when walking, repeated tremors and twitches in the limbs and muscles of the legs and toes when at rest, and shakiness when being held. (The occasional single myoclonic jerk that happens is not considered indicative of MBD.)

my tortoise suffers from mbd due to the care of its previous owner, despite having a moderate case of MBD she still has.....let me put it this way, it RUNS to the plate of greens the moment i put it in the tank.

she's doing well btw, a good diet with a multi and calcium suppliment and a strong uvb/uva bulb go a long way ;)
Where, in anything that you quoted, does it state that loss of appetite is NOT a sign of developing MBD? You quoted signs of severe MBD. I was just simply stating that in bearded dragons in particular, lack of appetite can be an early sign. The animals don't exhibit swollen limbs, knobby limbs, shaky gait etc until well into the disease. I don't think his bearded dragon has MBD I just posted that as a precaution for him to watch out for it.

what kind of uvb/uva bulb are you using?

my GF has had her new Bearded dragon for about 1 month, and he def isnt growing much.

we have the flourecent (SP) bulb that just screws into a standard like basking light fixture, and its uvb rating is 15% i believe.

also how often do you replacve your UVB bulbs?
thanks
Rob

I generally use the ZOOMED Mercury Vapor spot lamps and replace them every 6 months.

looks absolutely beautiful, looks like a female if you ask me. I agree that it looks very healthy, though you could always take it to a herp vet and get a fecal sample if you're unsure
