if its illegal, i wouldn't recommend doing it. And, to the who cares its legal guy... People have been caught and punished for keeping illegal fish. what makes you above the law? things are illegal for a reason. sure, its not always a good reason, but that doesn't mean you can just go over it.
If it's illegal, don't do it. Not worth the stress. Think about always having to look over your shoulder and not being able to talk about your fish. It's not worth it, it's not fun.
*What happened to your car, anyway, Carfree_Dude? Must have been something amazing to make it an event worthy of a username.
However, if fishing for them yourself, individual lakes, ponds, etc. may have daily catch limits, seasons, and minimum size limits. Collecting requires a fishing license no matter where in the state.
I very much apologize for being so thoughtless. I was not trying to advocate anything. It's just that others have talked about owning or being past owners of illegals. Guess I A**UMED that most of you didn't care!? Again, I'm very sorry, WON't happen again.
I don't think anyone who reg'd in 2011 should even come close to mentioning U.S. member's owning Channa.Reel the trollbait back in.
Op...what Oddball said. Also, grab some fingerlings (babies, finger sized), let them establish an order, and do not over feed.
I noticed with my baby grass pickerel that with live food left in with them to eat at their chagrin always turned out bad.
That type of elongated body just couldn't handle big feedings at a young age...Or grab a sub adult and it will be a lot more stable.Other than that, good mindset on checking the legalities first.
Always--- I've owned snakeheads back in college when they were sold for $2.00. You won't find to many on this forum advocating illegal activities. The quickest way for us to lose the ability to collect our natives is to abuse our states's laws/regulations.
My grass pickerel were FUN to keep.I was lucky enough to collect them wild.
They aren't as stable as something in the Sunfish family at a young age...at all.If you are serious, and money AND tank size permit, then take the above suggestion. You can't go wrong.
