Is prime ray safe. I am having trouble with my nitrates all of a sudden and I think that is why I just recently lost my male. Well I still can't seem to get them under control. I have got it to where it is staying though at 5.0 and cant get it below 5.0. I even added another filter and have been doing water changes every other day to try and get them under control.

Ammonia and nitrites are zero but I can't get rid of the nitrates. They are still eating and moveing around but aren't acting like they use to. So would prime be safe to use until I can figure out what is going on.

The tank is a 90gl and temporary. I have 3 fluval 404's on it and plenty of areation but no idea why I can't get rid of the nitrates.

Also does anyone have any ideas about what I should do, also let me know if you need more info to help.

Thanks.

wow thats tank is really filtered. you could drink that water!

i just used seachem Prime on my tank also. so this is a really important question to me also. i just changed the water a couple hours ago, i will go and test my water and let you know if my nitrates are up or down or if i have a bit.

Alright, hope it is ray safe, since you used it.

mine is between 0 and 20 ppm. i use mardel dipping strips

that is after a 40% water change. my tanks always seem to have nirates tho. even then tanks i didnt use the prime on.

Hmm, maybe I just had a big build up and that is why I lost my old male. But I never remeber having a problem with them until now.

Yeah, I haven't used it yet though, thats why I am asking for input.

ok then let ME cross my fingers LOL

i guess i will be your test subject

if they were going to die from it how long would it take? i will keep you posted on it they are still alive whenever you think it would be that it would affect them. its so far been a couple hours

I am confused, if the problem is nitrates, then you need either PLANTS (how about some floating plants?) or water changes. Not Prime.

I use prime in my tanks... have been for a long time. Seems to be perfectly fine with me ray, no problems.

ALso, you mention you don't understand why your nitrates are high because you have a lot of filtration... but you understand don't you that your filtration does not really remove nitrates (maybe a little). 2 things remove nitrates... WATER CHANGES and PLANTS.

You are barking up the wrong tree.
